These paint­ings jux­ta­pose the beast and the sov­er­eign – empha­siz­ing their mutu­al rela­tion out­side the law. Back­grounds are based on 18^thcen­tu­ry water­colours (large­ly paint­ed by women) and pho­tographs of the first 19^th-cen­tu­ry zoos.
